This manual provides guidance for unions and employers negotiating participation in the IAM National Benefit Funds. It outlines minimum bargaining standards, required contract language, sample collective bargaining agreement provisions, and other resources to help ensure compliance with Fund requirements.

Standard Contract Language

The bargaining parties that participate in the IAM National Pension Plan ("the Plan") must agree to the Fund's Standard Contract Language (SCL). This document sets forth the basis for participation in and contributions to the Fund.

Certain options, as shown in the Plan's Standard Contract Language, may be negotiated by the bargaining parties.

Under the Rehabilitation plan, bargaining parties will be required to execute adoption of the Rehabilitation Plan and one of the two Schedules.

Standard Contract Language - Tips to Remember

  • The SCL may not be altered without Fund approval.
  • Certain provisions may be negotiated.
  • Common discussion topics include:
    • Part-time or temporary employees
    • Contribution caps
    • Probationary exclusions
    • Withdrawal liability language
